Landscape

The main habitat of the Tarangire is the Grassland savannah.

The landscape consists mainly of grassland, open tree savannah, dense bush and forest land as well as sparsely vegetated hills and rocky outcrops. Huge baobab trees are found here in large numbers. The Tarangire River attracts many animals from drier regions during the annual dry season, which ensures that the density of large animals is the highest after the Ngorongoro Crater. There is a large seasonal swamp network in the south and east of the park, which is an important water catchment area. Throughout the park, beware of the tsetse fly, which transmits sleeping sickness.
