Landscape

The main habitat of the Skeleton Coast is the Sandveld.

The park protects a narrow strip of the barren desert coast. The landscape is characterised by endless sand dunes, mountains, gorges and rocky outcrops. The cool air from the sea and the warmth of the desert create an almost permanent layer of fog, which makes the landscape appear ghostly, but brings with it moisture that is important for flora and fauna.
