The Queen Elizabeth is a National Park in Uganda in the provinces of Western Region. The park was established on 01.01.1952 and covers an area of 1.978 km². The Queen Elizabeth offers the possibility of self-drive safaris.

The park borders Lake Edward and Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west and the Rwenzori Mountains to the north. It is Uganda's most popular savannah reserve and has the greatest diversity of wildlife of any Ugandan park.

Landscape

The main habitat of the Queen Elizabeth is the Grassland savannah.

The diversity of habitats includes grassland savannah, forests, wetlands and lakes. Tropical rainforest grows in the south-east of the park, and papyrus swamps are present north of Lake George.

The climate in Queen Elizabeth is warm. The rainy season takes place from Beginning March to End May The dry season first extended over the months from Beginning January to End February inclusive. The best time to tour is Beginning January End February.

The park's proximity to the equator ensures consistently warm temperatures all year round. Daytime temperatures rise to about 29°C and slowly drop to about 17°C at night. Heavy rains, which make some roads impassable, are a feature of the two rainy seasons in the region. Although there is no official dry season, rainfall subsides somewhat from January to February and June to July - although rarely completely.
