Okavango Delta

Highlights

The Okavango Delta is one of Africa's most famous tourist destinations. Located in the North West District of Botswana, the inland delta of the Okavango is bordered to the south by the Kunyere and Thamalakane Fissures, which run as barriers across the Okavango and are a southern continuation of the Great Rift Valley. In 2014, the Okavango Delta was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are several private reserves in the delta, such as the Moremi Game Reserve. It offers a true wilderness experience, excellent game viewing and stunning scenery. Walking safaris and mokoro (dug-out canoe) trips are a great addition to the usual game drives.

Landscape

The main habitat of the Okavango Delta is the Grassland savannah.

The Okavango is the largest intact inland delta in the world. The interaction of water masses and the sand and savannah landscapes of the Kalahari make the delta one of the world's great natural paradises.
