The Nyungwe Forest is a National Park in Rwanda in the provinces of North, West. The park was established on 01.01.2005 and covers an area of 1.015 km². The Nyungwe Forest offers the possibility of self-drive safaris.

The park is located in the southwest of Rwanda and is considered the largest contiguous mountain forest in East and Central Africa. It stretches across the western foothills of the Great Rift Valley, which includes the Huye. The 2950 m high Mount Bigugu lies in the park.

The landscape of Nyungwe Forest National Park is definitely spectacular. Even a drive on the main road offers incredible views of the pristine rainforest canopy stretching over endless hills towards the border with Burundi. A hike to a forest waterfall or into the vast open swamp area offer different insights into the breathtaking range of habitats. The forests in the park are called mountain rainforests.

The climate in Nyungwe Forest is warm. The rainy season takes place from Beginning October to End May The dry season first extended over the months from Beginning June to End September inclusive. The best time to tour is Beginning October End February.

Nyungwe is a true rainforest located at high altitude, resulting in a humid, cool climate. It can rain at any time, but June to September is considered the dry season as rainfall is slightly less during these months. Due to its proximity to the equator, temperatures do not change much throughout the year. At night, temperatures are about 10°C lower than during the day.
