Nairobi

Highlights

Nairobi National Park is only about 7 km from the capital Nairobi. Only a fence separates the animals from the city. This location is unique in Africa and the wildlife viewing is surprisingly good. Most of the big safari animals are present (except elephants). There is a small walkway at the entrance that goes through native forest and several wildlife enclosures.

Landscape

The main habitat of the Nairobi is the Grassland savannah.

The city's skyscrapers are visible above the open grassland and are disturbing from a wilderness perspective, although the skyline view is exceptional. To the west of the park is an upland with extensive forests and the park is criss-crossed by several valleys with seasonal water-bearing rivers. In the south of the park there is also a river with floodplain forests that carries water permanently.
