About Maputo

The Maputo is a Nature Reserve in Mozambique in the provinces of Maputo. The park was established on 01.01.1932 and covers an area of 1.04 km². The Maputo offers the possibility of self-drive safaris.

The reserve is located on Maputo Bay, about 100 kilometres southeast of the city of Maputo, and was established to protect the last remaining coastal elephants. In 2010, over a thousand more animals were reintroduced to the reserve, including zebras, warthogs, wildebeests, giraffes and several species of antelope.

The park's main attraction is not its wildlife, but its idyllic sandy beaches. Away from the coastline, one finds a spectacular area combining lakes, wetlands, sand forests, grasslands and mangrove forests.

The climate in Maputo is mild. The rainy season takes place from Beginning November to End April The dry season first extended over the months from Beginning May to End October inclusive. The best time to tour is Beginning July End October.

The park is dominated by the subtropical climate with hot and humid summer months and cooler, dry winter months. Winter and summer are at opposite times of the year as in Europe and North America. The wettest months are January and February, with regular heavy downpours.
