The national park was created by merging the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa and the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana and is a transboundary nature reserve in the Kalahari Desert. Landscape

The main habitat of the Kgalagadi is the Grassland savannah.

For many people, the landscape is as much an attraction of this park as the wildlife. The reddish-yellow sand dunes are a special feature in the Kalahari and the endless views are unique, providing a magnificent backdrop for wildlife viewing and photography. Essentially, the area consists of fields overgrown with dune grasses. The dry riverbeds of the Nossob and Auob are lifelines in this harsh environment.
