Landscape

The main habitat of the Katavi is the Grassland savannah.

Most of the park is covered by Miombo dry forest. Wide open grass savannahs characterise the landscape and form the varied vegetation of the national park, along with shrubland, swampland and gallery forest. At the lakes, the vegetation is mainly formed by grasses and herbs. The higher areas are mainly covered by mixed forest, only above an altitude of 900 m does the forest consist of the typical miombo species.
