Zambia North West, Central, Southern District National Park

About Kafue

The Kafue is a National Park in Zambia in the provinces of North West, Central, Southern District. The park was established on 01.01.1950 and covers an area of 22.4 km². The Kafue offers the possibility of self-drive safaris.

The park is the largest national park in Zambia and lies on the banks of the Lufupa and Lunga rivers, two tributaries of the Kafue, about 200 kilometres west of the town of Kafue. It is also the site of the Itezhitezhi Dam, which lies in front of the Kafue Dam reservoir and regulates its water level. Although the park is very accessible via a good road from Lusaka, it feels remote and wild. The animals can be quite shy, but you will still see plenty of wildlife. Four of the Big Five can be found here, only the rhino is missing.
