About Hwange

The Hwange is a National Park in Zimbabwe in the provinces of Matabeleland North. The park was established on 01.01.1961 and covers an area of 14.65 km². The Hwange is a Big Five reserve and offers the possibility of self-drive safaris.

The park is located 200 km northwest of the city of Bulawayo and borders Botswana to the west. It is one of the most important nature reserves in the country and is part of the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area.

The park is located 200 km northwest of the city of Bulawayo and borders Botswana to the west. It is one of the most important nature reserves in the country and is part of the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area.

Landscape

The main habitat of the Hwange is the Woodland.

Habitats include teak forest, thornveld and mopane forest. There is little natural water in the park and the animals depend on artificial water holes. On the dry sandy soils there is grassland with individual camel thorn acacias. The east is more densely vegetated.
