Landscape

The main habitat of the Budongo Forest is the Forest.

The landscape consists mainly of moist, medium-high, semi-deciduous forest, with patches of savannah and woodland. It covers a gently rolling landscape that slopes down towards the East African Rift Valley. Four rivers, Waisoke, Sonso, Kamirambwa and Siba, drain the forest and flow into Lake Albert. There are an amazing number of plant species in this pristine forest reserve. Most notable are the impressive giant mahogany trees, which are up to 60 m tall. Other beautiful trees to look out for are the spiny fagara trees, parasitic strangler figs and ironwood trees. The latter are regularly used by chimpanzees for communication by drumming on their trunks.
