Reef Resort

Please be warned, we had to cancel our booking with more than six months notice and the host refused to return our first payment. They ask for a first payment to secure your booking, then if you have to cancel for any reason at all, even with six or more months notice they refuse to reimburse you. The host was also rude and very difficult to work with to secure a booking in the first place, that should have been our warning I guess.

I and my family stayed at Reef Resort in Xai-Xai Beach and it was the most beautiful and superb Resort we have been long looking for. Tranquility at its very best, attentive staff, yummy meals at Café Pescador restaurant, the seafood platter a must have... We will definitely come back here to stay a little bit longer and fish a more. The launch site beach a few kms away from the resort, cleaned and looked after by the Resort a wow place to chill and cool down. Special thanks to Reef Resort & Cafe Pescador team for your commitment and dedication. Keep the flag high up there. Ernest & family.

Definitely not a good experience dealing with the manager of this lodge. I WhatsApp'd her to try and reserve the dates for this December 2024. When she hadn't got back to me and I was running out of options, I booked through Afristay as it was advertised on their platform and paid the deposit . Firstly she was advertising the incorrect nightly rate, and then after plenty of back and forth she cancelled my reservation. Judy is incompetent full stop! This is the email i received from her: Hi Candice Please find another lodge to book with. We are not prepared to accept your booking or the way you treat people if this is the way you act before you even reach the lodge. We quoted in good faith as we had availability, I believe Afristay did the same and I do not appreciate the way we have been played against each other and this after you had paid them? Quite frankly, if you had paid the deposit over to us, the deposits paid to us to confirm a booking are non refundable – we would not have refunded you. Afristay have been very lenient. Be warned!!!

No words can describe this gem located in Xai-Xai. Peaceful with relaxing sound from the sea. Our unit was great with excellent Seaview. We were lucky to spot a breaching humpback whale from balcony. Perfectly designed, each house with a welcoming touch. The baked Cheese cake topped with berry sauce from Cafe Pescador was incredibly delicious, the old man with his guitar was a plus . We jogged up and and down the resort every morning. We shall be back again sooooooon !

The rooms are fine, pretty big and the (small) private pool is a nice extra. However, they have seen better days and could use a renovation on various ends..The staff is nice and we were particularly impressed by the fact that the owners send us a catch of the day fish (free of charge), which was prepared by the restaurant and tasted fantastic. Unfortunately, what stood out negative at the end was the total charge of the laundry we handed in (fairly large amount ~20pc, consisting of several different pieces) of 3.100 MZN (44€), which is quiet honest ridiculous as this is the equivalent of a monthly salary in Mosambik and around 2€ per piece (the price list was not shown in the rooms but a per kg base was mentioned on the fridge). The next lodge we stayed at also confirmed that this price for laundry is absolutely not normal and they are charging 50MTZ/kg. It left a very strange feeling to an overall nice stay and eventually leading to not recommending to stay or returning.

It's always such a pleasure to stay at the beautiful Reef Resort in Xai Xai. This time, I came with a group of visitors, and they all loved the experience! From the management hospitality, to the beautiful rooms and views, to the wonderful service and food at the restaurant, we had a lovely time. Thank you! We look forward to coming back soon.

Well maintained houses/App. Top trained staff all around. Bonus is Pescador Restaurant with excellent big variety of food

Such a great resort in xai-xai , well equipped for self catering, well maintained, comfortable and beautiful rooms! Gorgeous views of the ocean. Kids loved the splash pool. Sadly only spent 1 night enroute, longer stays would be amazing. Only found the restaurant overpriced and seafood lacking.
