We had a family trip of 10 pax , with some family from Canada. We decided to rent a private house in mjejane. First off the list of rules are ridiculous. As a family with kids you are locked in your private lodge. You cannot walk around the fenced off area with the kids or do some activities with them in the private area , over and above that you cannot drive around the park in your private car , you have to hire a range vehicle. When you do, do a game drive. They provide nothing. No snack , drinks or any special stop to have a beautiful sundowners. Alcohol is 🚫 forbidden on the drive. So the local Amarula on ice is a no go. The house is neat a spacious but there is nothing that screams come back for the money you spend. The park is not in the kruger and has no access to the kruger as the bridge is closed cause the land owner has refused Mjejane access. The animals cross so even tho they say big 5. They actually can't control it. We only saw 3 of the big 5. They only have 1 leopard that they still believe to be in the park. No cheetah and 2 male lion that they think have crossed back to KP to find a female. For what one is spending, a private game reserve is a better option then mjejane. We have stayed at many game reserves that border the KP. This is probably the most disappointing.

Very nice lodge and game reserve as well! Food was great and the staff so kind ! We loved our guide Aron for our Safaris! He spotted the animals quick and was experienced :)

First be aware that the lodge is NOT IN THE KRUGER PARK. Instead it is right at the border and going to the Kruger will cost you extra. The view from the lodge is definitely fantastic, overlooking the crocodile river. Rooms are basic, the food buffet has little choice and the quality is not here. For the price you would expect more. The service is quite dramatic. Has many other review mentioned the staff is not really helpful and you have the feeling of bothering them when asking for something. We saw 3 out of the 5 “big 5”, stayed 4 days .. Conclusion: great view, decent lodge but too expensive in consideration of the rooms, food and service. And be ready to pay extra to see the big cats !

Our safari experience was amazing! We saw 4 of the big five and had really close views of the wildlife. Our driver did a great job. It is worth noting that the safari does not take place in Kruger National Park but that didn't affect our experience. We loved staying at the lodge, the view across the river was incredible. All staff apart from one on reception were helpful and friendly. The food was fine but nothing special.

Went there in June for a family trip. Had to change rooms cause they were not OK. The sheets were just not clean, humidity all over the walls, and the airco dropping water on the electrical outlets?? There were many staff all around the place, but stuff didn't feel organised. Most of the time you just saw them waiting because they were too much. The place sells itself as part of Kruger Parc, but it isn't. The safaris are outside and quite limited. We did see many animals tho which was wonderful. Our guide was funny, but it felt like he didn't want to put out too much effort. We received a few explanations on the first ride, then it was like he felt quiet. We had to ask ourselves a lot to get a little info. And we had to insist to make him use the radio and check with others if they found big 5's. Globally, the place looks nice, but it lacks fundamental renovations. Staff very nice, but helpless. Would not recommend if your hesitating.

The place has an amazing view of the river. It has a nice pool, the safari and park are amazing and has most of the animals you would expect (except leopard that are very hard to find). BUT It is not worth it's 4 star hotel, even tho they say it's in the Kruger, they are outside the Kruger park and u need to pay a supplement to go inside... Our guide was lacking some essential fundamentals... He did not communicate with the other guides (ex: not a lot of use of the radio or planning of Safari's). Another example is that we had to stop him for animals otherwise he would just ride past: even elephants. He wasn't much of a talker, if we didn't ask questions he wouldn't give us more information. He had a lot of knowledge on trees, birds or big games we saw and showed a book with details. But we had to ask for it every time. Our rooms were dirty and we had to change (rust in bathroom, moisture stain, filthy sheets and small holes in towels) Even though the place has a lot of potential it needs a full refreshment of the rooms... Most of the staff was kind but the place lacks management, ex: the duty manager was also a cook, the staff eating during service, removing the buffet before the ending hour, saying yes to everything but nothing done, and so on... Still the place is lovely but needs some improvements !

*Please note that this review is for the restaurant at Mjejane River Lodge, not the resort itself. We ordered off the menu, this was not the hotel buffet. To be frank, we received some of the worst service I've ever experienced. Rude, slow waiters. An ambivalent manager. It was as if we were very unwelcome indeed. The food was average and expensive. The location is the only pro. A big no for the rest 👎🏻

For the best family holiday in South Africa, this is where you need to go, there are also 3-4 bedroom time share homes and fully equipped private houses to rent at Mjejane. So various options depending on your budget. It is really a trip of a life time and they keen improving the area each time we come back. The game drives they provide are amazing and better than going into the Kruger itself. The evening ones are our favourite. Keep up the great work you all do, hopefully see you next year again!!
