About Mango Beach Resort

Mango Beach Resort is nestled behind a natural dune along the coastline of Tofo in Mozambique. The surroundings encompass the essence of being away from the hustle of mainstream town, with your own private beach shared only with other lodge guests.

A 1 or 2-minute walk and you will be on the beach; perfect for a tropical family-friendly vacation, a romantic honeymoon or an unforgettable adventure. Enjoy peaceful and comfortable accommodation on top of the warm sand and beneath shady palm trees. Guests have a choice of a variety of cabanas or family casas. All rooms are equipped with super comfy hotel-style beds, mosquito nets, fans, plug points, towels and more. Rooms are cleaned every day.

Guests have access to a shared outdoor kitchen with a large gas BBQ, kettle, cutlery etc. Hammocks spaced out beneath the palm trees, perfect for lazy days. Guests can enjoy our fitness centre free of charge. A laundry service and shuttle service are available on request at an additional fee.

The on-site restaurant and bar are open every day from 08h00 until late. We are famous for our seafood and pizza, but there is a lot more on the menu including Thai food, Indian curries, homemade pasta, bar snacks, calzones and options for the kiddies. The fully stocked bar has everything you could imagine. You won’t find colder beer or better cocktails anywhere else.

Such good value for money! One of our favourite spots in Mozambique. Highly recommend and the food is incredible. The gym is an added bonus, owners and staff seem to genuinely care about the guests.

**Do NOT stay here if you surf!** I came to Tofo for a week on a solo trip for my birthday and my main purpose was to surf. This place is miles from everything, and they charge 500 for each trip to the village. Unless you're up for a 45-minute walk to town, you're stuck eating at their restaurant—food was only ok, the coffee also only ok..and my pancakes for breakfast were cold. I arrived a day early, and when I realized how far I was from the surf (over an hour walking *one way* to the Tofinho wave) and that I'd have to pay 1000 meticals round trip every time I wanted to surf, I messaged them saying, "I'm really sorry to be awkward, but is it possible to cancel my booking? It’s just too far from the surf, and I can't afford to pay 1000+ each time." The manager said he’d contact the owner, but neither got back to me. Instead, an hour later, I got a notification on my phone to say the full payment *plus extra* had been taken from my account—without even letting me know, or discussing it. When I tried calling the owner via WhatsApp, he responded with, "Our phone lines are closed, but you're welcome to WhatsApp us." I explained my situation again, and his only reply was, "We process payments before check-in; it’s standard procedure. I trust you understand." I understand my booking was non-refundable, but enforcing that with zero flexibility—especially after I explained my situation—and not even having the decency to reply to me before taking the payment is just plain rude. On top of that, my booking was for $205 (including taxes), yet they charged me $225, claiming it was for an additional city tax, which was never mentioned when I made my booking. I’ve since moved to another accomodation, where they offered me a weekly rate, better than the one shown online (without me asking) and they didn’t charge me any extras. When I later mentioned that I might need to leave a day early to catch the Friday bus to Maputo for my flight, the new accommodation said, "No problem, we can adjust accordingly and will book you in for the 7 days just in case". It’s refreshing to see that some places still show compassion and are willing to help their guests.

Thank you so much for giving us an amazing experience at Tofo beach. We had a fabulous time. From the Cabana to food to drinks to your location, it was just of great value and service. To Michael and Jana, well done on creating this, you have a wonderful team of friendly helpful staff. Your venue is as in the photos online so no gimmicks or lies. Family friendly as my kids had a blast. THANK YOU.

Beautiful views, loved the hammocks overlooking the oceans, spent 2 whole days relaxing there. Sam the manager is super helpful. Good restaurant. Slightly disappointed at how basic the rooms are and the bad state of Mosquito nets.

I guess you know that you have had an amazing time at a particular place when you are sad to leave it. That's how we all felt on the morning of our families departure from Mango Beach Lodge. Words can't describe how much fun and how many special moments/memories we all made here. Waking up in the mornings to ververt monkeys swinging on the palm trees outside, seeing all the vibrant fish you only dream of in the warm ocean right on our doorstep at Mango and all the delicious food we ate at the restaurant were definitely highlights of our trip. Talking about food, Wow wow wow!!!! I think we must have tried everything on the menu and what a treat. I would highly recommend the Cheesy Foccacio and the 1/2 chicken with chips, ohhh and the Spaghetti bolognese, ahhh but what about the Gourmet Pizzas, well I think, at this rate I should just recommend everything on the menu. To top it off, the restaurant staff were absolutely incredible, they all were super friendly, cheerful and always willing to help, they even taught us a few basic words in Portuguese and made sure to keep our cold R&Rs rolling which made the whole Mozambiqican experience just a little more sweeter. Our family stayed in a very well kept and clean Cabana, which had super comfortable beds and much needed good quality mosquito nets. The rooms felt very homely and luxurious at the same time, we had a very nice bathroom attached to our cabana but couldn't resist rather using the community bathrooms. They were outstanding!!! The community bathrooms were super clean and tidy with wonderful showers, toilets and natural locally made coconut tree reed roofs hanging down which made it feel like we where on a summer vacation. And finally, last but definitely not least, to Michael and his beautiful family at Mango Beach Lodge, who were beyond expectations. They were always willing to help, with smiles on their faces, and they openingly got to know us and many more guests like we were all part of the Mango beach family. Thank you Michael and family we appreciate everything that you did for us to make our stay just a little more special!!!!! This experience was definitely one for the books. Everyone in our family (from old to young) got to tick many adventures off their bucket lists and this was all thanks to Mango Beach Lodge. We will definitely be back for another amazing snorkel, R&R on the beach and catch up session soon. Muito Obrigada!

If you in Tofo or Barra and don't visit Mango Beach you going to miss a great spot. Best views in Tofo, on top of a dune overlooking the sea and great rock pools, for snorkeling and swimming. You can even hire the masks etc for a reasonable fee if you don't have your own. Stairs leading down from the restaurant to the beach, umbrellas placed daily by the team for some shade. A play area at the restaurant for the kids and a small pool for a dip. The restaurant itself has a great menu, is well priced and their seafood top class. Ask for Michael or Sam. You will want to keep going back.

Just popped in for lunch by chance - really lovely people, Alberto (the chef) helped push my rubbish SUV out of the sand as we were going to watch birds up the coast. Then we met Sam the manager on the road who stopped for a chat. So we called in and had an unbelievably good pizza - thin crusty base, loads of olives....and the pasta was home made with fresh basil - totally recommend! We will go back. It's at the end of the road if you don't have a proper 4x4, but definitely worth a short walk if you stop before the sand gets too deep.

Best family holiday destination in Mozambique! I got to see wales while having my morning coffee! We stayed there with family and there was something for everyone - the food was amazing, super friendly and helpful staff and service, and lots of fun beach activities. Highly recommend staying at the lodge, or just visiting the restaurant for a day outing and enjoying the beach.
