About Klaarstroom Hotel

Klaarstroom, which translates to English as ‘clear stream’, is located in the heart of the Karoo.

Klaarstroom is a picturesque, peaceful, authentic Victorian, working farm village situated at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains.

The village is positioned at the Great Karoo entrance to Meiringspoort, a spectacular gorge through the Swartberg Mountain range which links the Great Karoo and the Little Karoo (Klein Karoo). The old inner village is conveniently and quietly situated behind sheltering koppies, just 500m off the N12.

This makes Klaarstroom a convenient stopover en route from the north of the country to the Garden Route and Southern Cape coast. It is also halfway between Cape Town and the malaria-free game-farms and reserves that have the Big Five in the Eastern Cape, offering guests the ideal opportunity to enjoy the traditional charms and big skies of a Karoo stopover on their way to a safari adventure.

If I could give the Klaarstroom Hotel 100/10 I would! One of the most impeccable places and a true hidden gem! Rooms are modern but still having the classic look and feel. We had an overnight stay and our host Elsabe made us feel incredibly welcome from the beginning. Upon arrival offering us swimming towels to have a dip in their magical swimming pool, which was a real treat. Dinner served piping hot and on your scheduled time was outstanding! The chicken schnitzel is delicious, but is accompanied with a side of fries and the most heavenly rich cheese sauce. The breakfast is equally as delicious and served with a smile by the wonderful staff! The town in itself is quaint and small but full of character and charm. A must visit for all South Africans. And one last huge thanks to Elsabe! She is the epitome of grace and elegance of a host! Keeping Klaarstroom Hotel running like clockwork, while still maintaining interaction with the guests and making us feel totally at home. Dankie Tannie Elsabe! If you’re coming in December prepare for it to be hot hot hot!

What an absolute disaster and bad customer service experience! My father phoned a week before my mother's birthday for a family dinner. All the children and grandchildren were together this year to make her birthday special. Everything was in place. When my father made a booking he set the date and everything, they even send the menu via what's app. When we got there we were told there's a private family function. My father said ,but we booked and it was confirmed and everything. We got told we can sit in a hot old dining room and that we will have to wait for our food because the kitchen is already at capacity. The owner told my father that he should have spoken to her. He replied saying, how was he supposed to know? He phoned the number (it was the correct number and details and website ect.) And the owner was really not friendly or accommodating..not even trying to make the uncomfortable situation better ... Needles to say we left.. Without a proper apology or anything. This is really poor service and never have we ever encountered such a situation.. even if there was a mix up, this is not how you handle clients! The menu's wasn't even in good form, had stickers on prices to cover old prices ect. And my dad chose this place as it looks beautiful and had a great ambiance and we come from the area!! Luckily we found a better place that was willing to help us and the food was delicious!

Stopped in front of the building but did not go in because of time. It looks open and neat and is opposite the old classic police station that is only now and then manned, SA flag fly proudly though. Went slowly on to see the rest of the dorpie. Looks peacefull town and saw police patrolling the area.

The Klaarstroom Hotel is an absolute gem!! A bit of history from days gone by, combined with some modern luxury, great service and wonderful food. The owners are really going the extra mile to put their hotel on the tourist map and doing a great job of it. Elsabe is such a wonderful host. The hotel is perfectly positioned on the cusp of the Western and Eastern Cape Karoo areas. We were on a 10 day adventure motorcycle ride from east to west and Klaarstroom was the perfect stop. Swimming pool, cold beers, great food and hot shower, anything a weary traveler could ask for. We will definitely be back, highly recommended.

Just stopped in for a lunch, which was delicious. Peeked into the bedrooms, and they look amazing. Definitely now on our list of places to sleep over

Stayed here for 3 days. Had a wonderful experience, having the quiet all around you and having no tv in the room made it better. Lovely view of the mountains. As you walk around you get that forgotten town feeling and it made me feel a bit more intouch with nature and history. Will definitely be back with the whole family.
