Camp Sabali

Lupande Island Cropping, Mfuwe, Mfuwe 00000

About Camp Sabali

Nestled on a seasonal island near the confluence of the Luangwa and Lupande rivers, Camp Sabali is surrounded by pristine bush, and abundant bird and wildlife. The camp is a hidden haven, offering the highest standards of service and cuisine, with experienced field guides who accompany guests on both walking and driving safaris.

Situated just 45 minutes from Mfuwe Airport, a one-hour flight from Lusaka or Lilongwe (Malawi), Camp Sabali is just a stone’s throw from the front gate of South Luangwa National Park. Sabali is unfenced and animals are frequent visitors, strolling through the camp unhindered.

Each of our six luxury tented units accommodates 2 people and has an en-suite bathroom with an indoor shower, twin basins, a toilet, and access to a private outdoor shower. In addition, each tent is furnished with a king-size bed that can be converted to twin beds, sustainably sourced hardwood decor, a portable fan, and a spacious, private deck/terrace overlooking the flood plains out to the Luangwa River.

From breakfast to high tea, closing the day with a sumptuous dinner, all our meals feature ingredients sourced locally, with the freshest fruit, vegetables and meat from local growers and farmers. Our highly trained chefs take immense pride in presenting beautiful dishes that reflect the rich abundance of Zambian produce.

We do have a concierge service (available during office hours) that can assist with booking tours and activities. Our morning game drive leaves camp at 06h00 so tea, coffee and homemade rusks will be served from 05h30. During the drive, guests can enjoy freshly baked muffins or croissants, with tea and coffee.

For complete relaxation and destress, spa treatments and therapies can be arranged for guests.

Our bar is always open and we will happily mix your favourite cocktail or pour you a glass from one of our bottles of imported wines or spirits, or you can order and enjoy an ice-cold local Mosi beer and relax on the deck overlooking the bush.

Alive with the sights and sounds of nature, Camp Sabali is inspired by the local surroundings and the many magnificent bird species that call the camp home. The décor reflects the different plumage of six of the most common birds on the island, including our rescued barn owls raised and released here.

We had a fantastic stay at Cambsabali! The room had a great atmosphere and was very comfortable. Leon, the owner, is incredibly friendly and made us feel so welcome throughout our stay. All the staff were amazing, especially Elvis, who provided outstanding service and ensured we had everything we needed. Highly recommend this hotel for its warm hospitality and exceptional service!

Had a memorable time relaxing in the capable hands at Camp Sabali. The Emerald season gives a completey different experience in Luangwa as the rains transform the landscape into a verdant panorama. Camp Sabali is a beautiful set of six boutique tents set just a few metres from the Luangwa River. Super comfortable and magical space to listen to the hippos sing or have elephants wander through camp. It's a wonderful set-up - owned and run by the affable, and passionate Leon. His knowledge of bird species and the local flora and fauna is incredibly enlightening. The onsite Sabali team of Elvis and Rhoda deliver a happy, attentive and personal service while Mary cooks up delicious and well presented dishes. High tea, elevenses, and sundowners along the river banks - totally immersive stuff from Camp Sabali. Daily game drives were with our knowledgeable and fun guide Issac. He was full of information, not only about the larger species that draw most visitors, but also about the geographical shaping of the park, numerous birds, plants, river courses, and interaction between the animals. He'll teach you to listen for the alarm calls and watching the sky for scavengers. Nothing is guaranteed in the low season but the game drives found intimate sightings of lion, leopard (with cubs), elephant, hippo, hyena, painted dogs, giraffe, buffalo, crocodiles, kudu, impala, puku, water buck, warthog... too many to mention! Thank you Leon (Seb & Ash) for an unforgettable stay at the excellent Camp Sabali. Highly recommended stay in South Luangwa. See you next time!
