Hornbill Lodge and Legends Restaurant

We booked for day visit, we were celebrating our year end function. We had great time, we enjoyed our day, the place is beautiful, we enjoyed the big swimming pool...

What a disappointment!! The photos looked so lovely; we took the kids through for the day. Pools are a light to medium green colour, not at all what is purported in the photos. We ate at the restaurant - flies attack you the second you try to eat or drink anything - the waiter had never heard of citronella candles🙃 worst machine-made cuppacinos (at R40 a cuppacino); kids ordered pizza which was made with the cheapest pink tomato sauce (we sent it back uneaten); ordered steak, one was as ordered, one was supposed to be well done but was still raw inside. We left quicker than we drove in, and won't be back.

We went for Sunday lunch and had a most enjoyable time and an excellent cooked lunch. We enjoyed our afternoon sitting next to the river and see the birdlife. We even had a short walk around the camping facilities and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

Camping at Hornbill Lodge was a very easy and relaxed experience. There's plenty of space to choose from, all close to the river, fairly clean and neat and very well shaded. Big trees everywhere :) The bathrooms at the lodge are in good condition, but a bit far from the camp site (but they do tell you this on the website) The pool is massive and lovely to swim in and really appreciated the kiddies pool having gone with a toddler. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and shout-out to the owner and his son who came to help us with a car-wont-start situation while we were packing up, and got us going again. Very very grateful! Next time we will definitely be staying for the breakfast 😋

Went there for lunch on a Monday afternoon and we were the only people there. We had a welcoming committee of the resident dogs. We counted 5. The restaurant has a deck overlooking the river and it’s a scenic and peaceful spot to have lunch. Had one of the legends milkshakes along with their rib burger specials. The milkshake came with a lot of decorations as you can see but wasn’t overly sweet as I thought. An adult can enjoy them too in my opinion. The rib burgers were quite delicious and for R 55 each offer great value. Service was good as we were the only ones there. Will go back for a hike later

Milkshakes received was nothing like advertised. Super expensive for a plain Milkshake at R65 - no cotton candy, no suckers - then you get the excuse that the machine is broken - a machine does not make suckers, marshmallows or suryp ect. Place looks delapitated was broken furniture. Would not recommend! If I could give minus stars I would!

We booked the entire lodge for a team building event on 07th June'24. The service we received from Cobie and the team were brilliant. They accommodated all our requests which made it a memorable experience for all of us. The hike was very informative. A big thanks to Cobie and the team, we will definitely see you again!

Our experience was amazing, Cobie was very friendly when we made the booking. It is very peaceful and green. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and James our waiter was very friendly. The food was delicious, we had a rib burger and the farmer's breakfast. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you so much to the team for such an amazing stay and for allowing us to check out late :)
